Tim Ryan and Monty Mason Standing in front of the Virginia flag.

Last week the Rotary Club of Newport News had a packed agenda! We welcomed Monty Mason to present during our weekly meeting. Monty is a member of the Virginia Senate for the 1st district. Monty has been representing the 1st district since 2016. During his talk, he shared updates on various topics such as the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel construction project, the upcoming elections (yes, you heard that right), education, Jefferson Lab, and he addressed questions from our members. Thank you, Monty, for taking the time out of our busy schedule to talk with us.

Tim Ryan, Laura Colvin, Sharyn Fox standingCongratulations to Laura Colvin on being inducted as our newest club member. Laura is currently a Vice President of Business Banking at Dollar Bank. Laura is big into community and service, as she is also a member of the Kiwanis Club of Williamsburg since 2005. Welcome to the club, Laura!

Tim Ryan, Athena Robbins, Woody Andrews standingCongratulations to Athena Robbins for being awarded the Paul Harris Fellow +8 award. To be recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow, individuals must have contributed $1,000 or more to the Annual Program Fund, Polio Plus Fund, or the Humanitarian Grants Program of the Rotary Foundation. Speaking of recognition, you may remember that Athena was the club’s 2020 Rotarian of the Year. Thank you for all that you do for our club, Athena!

If you want to get more involved with Newport News and improve the community, you’re invited to join us for an upcoming lunch. We meet every Tuesday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the James River Country Club. Each week we feature a community leader as a speaker so you can learn more about the great area in which we live. On November 21st, we will hear from Newport News Mayor-Elect Phillip Jones.

We also mix in a lot of fun and community projects along the way to make an excellent experience for everyone! Let us know if you’re planning to attend a meeting so we can welcome you properly.
