The Rotary Club of Newport News returned for the first meeting in 2023. After a series of community service projects and a short holiday break, members packed the James River Country Club. So much, so that additional chairs and table settings were needed to accommodate the demand.
Longtime Rotarian Jim Mears invited the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeastern Virginia to speak to our club. The presentation was led by Katie McDonough, the Executive Director, and supported by Barbara Monteith, Senior Development Manager. We learned about an array of topics ranging from the meaning of the logo to the latest developments from the newest drug treatments that were authorized by the FDA last week. Katie described the new developments as a real turning point for being able to treat the disease. We also learned the Alzheimer’s Association has already reached out to Medicare and Medicaid to request that the new drugs be approved for insurance coverage.
