Newport News Rotary Club’s ACE program (Access to Career Education) is intended to become the Club’s “signature” project in the community. ACE has been designed to help fund underemployed adults to make a career step up in earnings and lifestyle. Working with the workforce development arms of Thomas Nelson Community College and New Horizons, the program in its second year of operation has funded seventeen working adults. The results have been very encouraging, resulting in sharp increases in most graduates’ incomes and lifestyles. Rotary Club members serve on selection boards for ACE scholarships, as “sponsors” for individual scholarship recipients, and on the committees that make the program go. ACE is the only program of its kind in Virginia, and we will continue to expand the program as we register more success.
