Rotarians and their guests enjoyed a meeting filled with information ranging from how Rotary International is addressing those under 40 to the One City Marathon that will be hosted in Newport News in March 2015.

Past President, Chris Davidson shared his experience after traveling to Chicago to meet up with other Rotarians under the age of 40. Rotary recognizes the importance to continue to diversify and attract the talents of the world’s future leaders. Chris was happy to share that our club, the Rotary Club of Newport News had all of the traits and diversification that Rotary International is seeking to achieve.

We also heard from new member, Lisa Milne deliver a classification talk. Notably, Lisa resides in the Williamsburg area decided to join the Rotary Club of Newport News because she’s looking to expand her network and meet leaders from Newport News. Classification talks are designed so new members can share information about themselves so the rest of the club can get to know one another better.

Finally, we heard from Telly Whitfield, the Assistant City Manager of Newport News talk about the One City Marathon. We learned that the marathon is more than a marathon; it’s an event that is designed to celebrate and unite the entire city. The One City Marathon will feature an kid and family friendly 1 nautical mile race, an 8K race and the full 26.2 marathon that can be run solo or as a relay.
