On October 4th, the Rotary Club of Newport News welcomed one of their members, Celeste Agett, to share about the Channel to Brazil for Christ (CBC). The nonprofit seeks to give its students hope and the means to build a better future for themselves and the entire community of Fortaleza, Brazil. CBC offers a pathway out of poverty to children in the slums of Brazil through programs that are designed to support families and build stronger communities. Their goal is to reach these children before they continue in patterns of gang violence, addiction, prostitution, and crime. CBC is a secondary school that works with public school students to provide extracurricular education that promotes dreaming and self-esteem and builds hope.
Celeste Agett has worked in non-profit management for over 15 years. She currently owns Character performing arts and is the Donor Relations Manager for The Channel to Brazil for Christ. Celeste graduated from the American Music and Dramatic Academy and studied at Broadway Dance Arts in New York City. She went back to school in 2005 to study music ministry and church leadership through the IMPACT school of ministry. Thank you, Celeste, for sharing your passion with our club.
If you want to get more involved with Newport News and improve the community, you’re invited to join us for an upcoming lunch. We meet every Tuesday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the James River Country Club. Each week we feature a community leader as a speaker so you can learn more about the great area in which we live. We also mix in a lot of fun and community projects along the way to make an excellent experience for everyone! Let us know if you’re planning to attend a meeting so we can welcome you properly.
