On Tuesday, February 16th, the Rotary Club of Newport News hosted Kathy Edwards, President & CEO of Achievable Dream Academies. Many of you may know of Achievable Dream Academies from their annual “Tennis Ball”, this year marking its 24th year!

From their website:

“Through unique public/private partnerships with Newport News Public Schools (NNPS) and Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBSPS), An Achievable Dream operates two elementary and one middle and high school. The public school systems provide instructional and support elements common to all city schools, including basic curriculum and staffing, student services, transportation, food service, and maintenance. An Achievable Dream, Inc., a 501(c)(3) raises funds for and operates additional components that contribute significantly to the programs’ effectiveness. The faculty and staff go beyond academics to provide students with a well-rounded education through the comprehensive SAME (social, academic and moral education) curriculum, state-of-the-art technology, and extensive extracurricular, experiential and cultural activities.”

Kathy showed a brief, but powerful, video about Achievable Dream Academies’ work with students, shared additional information about their mission and programs, and then took a robust battery of questions from the floor. Everyone was engaged…and inspired!

Thank you, Kathy, for making us all (more) aware of the great work that you and your team do for the next generation of leaders! More information can be found by visiting http://achievabledream.org/.
