Typically, the Rotary Club of Newport News meets for lunch every Tuesday at the James River Country Club. Each meeting features a great meal and a presentation from a community leader. Past speakers have included the owner of the Norfolk Admirals, the Mayor of Newport News, and the Executive Director of the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank.
New for this Rotary year, the last Tuesday meeting of each month will be canceled and replaced with an alternating social event and community service project. This week, the club met at Schooners Grill on Warwick Blvd for an evening of fun and fellowship. The social was well attended, with more than 30 members and their guests joining in on the fun.
As a member of Rotary International, every Rotarian abides by a “Four Way Test” of the things they think, say, and do…
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
The Rotary Club of Newport News adopted the fifth challenge, and that is:
- “Is it fun?”
“Adopting monthly socials and service projects allows us to expand the fun that occurs with each meeting. Additionally, this allows us to share the word of Rotary and support more local businesses by having socials around the Newport News community”, says Tim Ryan, the current president of the club.
If you want to get more involved with Newport News and improve the community, you’re invited to join us for an upcoming lunch. We meet every Tuesday from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the James River Country Club.
If you own or manage a local establishment in Newport News and would like to host our club for a future social event, we want to know! If you want to recommend a service project, let us know. Finally, if you want to speak at our club, you can apply to speak here.
